We’d like to introduce ourselves.
Precision Aquaculture Sourcing, Consulting & Engineering | AquaOrganica
Precision aquaculture is the discipline of aligning genetics, technology, facility design, and management into one optimised production system, where every component performs, and performs together.
Most operations have excellent individual parts. Few have a system that works as a whole. That gap is what we close.
As a precision aquaculture consulting firm operating across Europe and North America, AquaOrganica helps fish farms and hatcheries engineer land-based and marine production systems that perform reliably and profitably. We work across the full production spectrum: flow-through, RAS systems and hybrid flow-through systems (HFS), sea cages, raceways, hatcheries, and enclosed grow-out facilities, from egg to harvest.
Farm Modernization. This Is Where the Real Work Happens.
The most productive aquaculture operations in the world didn’t get there by replacing one piece of equipment. They achieved this by redesigning and optimising how the system functions as a whole.
A well-executed modernization program changes the economics of an entire operation, lower energy costs, higher survival rates, better feed conversion, more consistent production output.
We assess existing facilities with engineering precision, identify where efficiency is being lost, and design integration programs that bring underperforming operations up to the standard modern, sustainable aquaculture demands. Whether that means partial RAS integration, biosecurity redesign, hatchery optimisation, or full facility re-engineering, we build it to perform and built it to last.
RAS Design, Integration & Optimization Recirculating Aquaculture Systems are the future of intensive, sustainable fish production and building one that performs requires more than hardware knowledge. AquaOrganica brings global, hands-on RAS experience across species and scales: system design, biological filtration management, water quality engineering, and performance troubleshooting. We know where RAS systems fail. We know how to prevent it.
Precision Ova – Global Supply & Genetic Selection Your genetics are the ceiling of your entire production cycle. As a global ova dealer, AquaOrganica sources certified, disease-free, genetically selected ova across a wide range of species, like salmonids, marine fish, and beyond, matching genetics to production system, target market, and climate.
Feed Sourcing & Nutritional Formulation Feed represents up to 60% of production costs. AquaOrganica advises on species-specific nutritional requirements, feed conversion optimisation, and sustainable ingredient sourcing, connecting clients with manufacturers who meet both the performance standard and the price point.
Gas Management & TGP Optimisation Most farms respond to underperformance by adding oxygen. It helps, but it does not solve the problem.
Dissolved nitrogen is the variable most operations are not measuring, and oxygen cannot remove it. Nitrogen is biologically inert: fish cannot metabolise it, biofilters cannot consume it, and aerating more simply masks the symptom while the real constraint remains in place. Chronic nitrogen supersaturation suppresses immune function, impairs gill efficiency, increases stress load, and silently erodes feed conversion ratios, keeping fish below their genetic performance ceiling regardless of how well everything else is managed. Elevated CO₂ compounds the damage further, forcing fish to divert metabolic energy away from growth just to regulate blood pH.
Proper gas management means addressing Total Gas Pressure across all dissolved gases, in the right sequence. Degas first. Oxygenate second. AquaOrganica designs and specifies complete degassing and TGP optimisation systems for the full water circuit. The production loss from undiagnosed gas issues is real, measurable, and recoverable.
Most farms are sitting on unlocked performance they don’t know they have.
Aquaculture Facility Design & Engineering New builds and modernization projects designed for long-term performance, energy efficiency, and return on investment, with operational reality built in from day one.
Hatchery Design, Technology & Management The hatchery is where the production ceiling is set. We design and optimise hatchery systems, incubation, larval rearing, juvenile development, environmental control, for consistency, survival, and scalability across species.
Biosecurity Program Design Prevention is an engineering discipline. We design biosecurity frameworks and SOP’s into facilities from the outset, pathogen exclusion, water treatment, traffic flow, and monitoring systems, because retrofitting biosecurity after a disease event is always more costly than building it in from the start.
Technical Consulting & Production Audits End-to-end operational assessments, production troubleshooting, and performance benchmarking. We assess the system, identify what is working and what is not, and tell clients exactly what to do about it.
Marco Pistrin is a Registered Professional Biologist (R.P.Bio), Project Management Professional (PMP), and published aquaculture engineer with nearly two decades of global field experience across the full spectrum of production systems and species.
His academic formation spans three world-class institutions: a BAg.Sc in Agriculture with a double major in Animal Sciences and Animal Nutrition from the University of British Columbia; an MSc in Global Fisheries & Aquaculture Engineering from Wageningen University & Research; and advanced RAS design certification through Cornell University’s Aquaculture Engineering program. That combination of biological depth, engineering precision, and RAS specialisation is the technical foundation of everything AquaOrganica builds.
Before founding AquaOrganica, Marco held senior technical and commercial roles at Pentair Aquatic Eco-Systems. That experience forged both the technical depth and the commercial perspective to understand what the global aquaculture industry needs, and where it consistently falls short.
His operational background spans Canadian Pacific salmon farming, European and North American RAS facilities, European sea bass, sea bream, and global trout operations, and salmonid and sturgeon enhancement programs, across flow-through and hybrid flow-through systems, recirculating aquaculture systems, sea cages, hatcheries, and enclosed production facilities on multiple continents.
Marco is a regular contributing author to International Aquafeed / Fish Farming Technology, writing on precision aquaculture, RAS, IMTA, and the technology and policy forces shaping the global industry. He is a member of the Aquacultural Engineering Society and holds a peer-reviewed publication in the journal Aquaculture on RAS water quality and early-stage fish development.
Sara Inglese holds a BSc in Biological Sciences and an MSc in Marine Biology and Aquaculture, both from the University of Naples Federico II.
Her master’s thesis tackled circular economy at the production level: developing a zero-cost water remediation material from aquaculture fish bone by-products, validated through laboratory synthesis and ecotoxicological testing, research that makes sustainability operational, not theoretical.
Her academic work produced four peer-reviewed publications spanning Mediterranean and North African lagoon biodiversity, comparative fatty acid profiling of marine species, heavy metal stress responses in Oreochromis niloticus, and climate change monitoring along the Egyptian Mediterranean coast.
Practical production experience was built at L’Avannotteria, an Italian marine hatchery, through hands-on juvenile management and facility operations for sea bream (Sparus aurata) and sea bass (Dicentrarchus labrax), the cornerstone species of Mediterranean marine aquaculture. Sara is a member of the European Aquaculture Society and World Aquaculture Society, with international training through Erasmus programs and the AgrI-fiSh Sustainable Aquaculture Summer School.
At AquaOrganica, Sara leads operations and supports client engagements, data and facility analysis, and the development of AquaOrganica’s scientific content and proprietary tools.
AquaOrganica works with fish farms and hatcheries all across Europe and North America.
Every engagement is built on technical honesty and measurable results.
